ohn Klagen, ohn Zagen,
lern Ungunst kühn tragen.

Schöner kann man es eigentlich nicht formulieren.

Ich weiß, man würde mir raten aufzugeben. Aber was heißt aufgeben?

Yes, what a day.
I feel as though the noose were tightening around us. There are fewer and fewer students because people have less money. The political situation is closing in. My wife is not well, and neither am I. It is getting harder. Winter is coming. Things are becoming more warlike. It is getting cold.

And I am sitting here, and somehow I have to gather my strength and be strong.
As Goethe says:

Through snow and rain,
against the winds,
without complaint, without fear,
learn to bear adversity boldly.

It could hardly be put more beautifully.
I know people would advise me to give up. But what does giving up even mean?

I go back to Germany and present myself as a persona non grata at government offices—in a country where my choice seems to be whether my future boss is called Friedrich Merz or the AfD; where I will be fired and harassed because I do not conform to conventions that I simply cannot conform to.
Or I stay here, wherever “here” may be right now, and try to make the best of it. The best of myself, the best of the situation. And, trusting in God, hope that everything will turn out all right in the end.

I believe that nothing more is possible. I cannot do more than that.
And if I am honest: Isn’t that my superpower? The only thing I can do.

Je sais qu’on me conseillerait d’abandonner.
