Es kann sein, dass es Länder wie Indonesien gibt, die mehr Sonnentage haben und in Kroatien sind einige Strände vielleicht noch mehr gestaltet wie ein Idyll auf Postkarten, aber hier in Griechenland kommt noch etwas hinzu: Die Menschen.

Diese unaufdringliche Freundlichkeit, die Liebe zur unbeschreiblichen Schönheit der eigenen Heimat und die entspannte Ruhe mit der man den großen und kleinen Katastrophen des Lebens begegnet, machen Griechenland nicht nur zu einem der schönsten, sondern auch liebenswertesten Flecken der Welt.

Natürlich ist auch hier nicht alles Gold, das glänzt und auch hier gibt es Dinge, die verbesserungswürdig sein könnten, aber erstens: Wo gibt es das nicht? Und zweitens: Hier ist Optimierung nicht Lebensinhalt, sondern “ nice to have“.

Wo sonst fahren die Menschen vor oder nach der Arbeit mal eben in die Natur? Kurz inne halten, durchatmen, zu sich kommen und beim Blick auf die Wellen und Sonne eben runter kommen? 

Wo hält man auch mal gerne 20 Minuten vor einer Schaf, Kuh oder Ziegenherde ohne gestresst zu hupen, weil ein vermeintlich wichtiger Termin drückt? Man ist in den Bergen und dort sind immer noch die Menschen zu Gast und nicht die Tiere. Man wartet, grüßt schlussendlich den Hirten und fährt seiner Wege.

Hier grüßt (meist) jeder jeden, ob arm oder reich und hier hilft man sich, wenn man kann und fragt und wenn nicht, dann nicht und man ist sich nicht böse oder drängt sich auf. Und man ist nicht berechnend nett, sondern weil Nettigkeit das Leben für alle leichter und schöner macht.

Hier in Griechenland erfindet man kein Handy, sondern genießt, wenn es mal nicht klingelt. Hier hat man Ruhe und alles was man als gestresster und vom Leben getriebener Schreiberling braucht. Und was noch? 

Natürlich einen Jiannis, denn ohne Freunde geht auch in Griechenland nichts und Jiannis ist glücklicherweise unser Freund geworden.

Und wenn er mal keine Zeit hat, scheint hier sogar meist im Winter die Sonne und das Vitamin D von 300 Tagen Sonne im Jahr verweist dunkle Gedanken nicht ins Jenseits, aber zumindest auf die billigen Plätze.

Eigentlich fehlen nur noch Max, Alfredo Mama Bärbel und natürlich mein Engel, aber jeder sucht ja sein eigenes Glück und Griechenland ist ja nicht aus der Welt.

Paradise found
It may be that there are countries like Indonesia that have more days of sunshine and in Croatia some beaches are perhaps even more like an idyll on a postcard, but here in Greece there is something else: the people.

This unobtrusive friendliness, the love for the indescribable beauty of their homeland and the relaxed calmness with which the big and small catastrophes of life are met make Greece not only one of the most beautiful, but also one of the most endearing places in the world.

Of course, not all that glitters here is gold and there are things that could be improved, but firstly, where is that not the case? And secondly, optimization is not the purpose of life here, but a „nice to have“.

Where else do people take a trip into nature before or after work? Where else do people stop for a moment, take a deep breath, come to their senses and calm down while looking at the waves and the sun?

Where else do you stop for 20 minutes in front of a herd of sheep, cows or goats without honking your horn in stress because you have a supposedly important deadline? You’re in the mountains and it’s still the people who are the guests, not the animals. You wait, finally greet the shepherd and go your way.

Here (mostly) everyone greets everyone else, whether rich or poor, and people help each other if they can and ask, and if they can’t, they don’t and they don’t get angry or impose on each other. And people are not calculatingly nice, but because being nice makes life easier and nicer for everyone.

Here in Greece, you don’t invent a cell phone, you enjoy it when it doesn’t ring. Here you have peace and quiet and everything you need as a stressed and life-driven hack. And what else?

Jiannis, of course, because you can’t do without friends in Greece and Jiannis has fortunately become our friend.

And if he doesn’t have time, the sun shines here even in winter and the vitamin D from 300 days of sunshine a year doesn’t banish dark thoughts to the afterlife, but at least to the cheap places.

The only things missing are Max, Alfredo, Mama Bärbel and of course my angel, but everyone is looking for their own happiness and Greece is not out of the world.
